We Have Been Usurped!

On the topic of energy independence, the Congress, under the management of Speaker Pelosi (D-CA), introduced legislation at 9:45 PM this past Monday night and was passed almost entirely along party lines last night, just 24 hours after being introduced. The bill is 290 pages long and was never reviewed by any committee. In fact, it was drafted in secrecy in Speaker Pelosi’s office.

The ban on off-shore drilling is set to expire on October 2, 2008 if Congress does nothing. Instead, Pelosi has railroaded the American public on energy independence by forcing a vote on legislation no one has had time to review.

The gist of the bill is this:

  • Off-shore drilling is permitted between 50-100 miles off the coast; excluded is ANWR, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and other locations.
  • States are not allowed to collect royalties from the harvesting of state off-shore resources; however, they are required to approve drilling before it permitted.
  • Tax incentives have been repealed from major oil companies increasing 
  • Alternative energy research and development is a requirement along with the tax increases

Some additional facts:

  • 80% of oil reserves off-shore exist between 3-50 miles of the shoreline, this bill bans drilling there.
  • States will never approve leases to harvest their resources without paying the states for the lease.
  • Tax incentives on oil companies keep prices lower; higher taxes translate directly to higher pump prices.
  • Alternative energy reinvestment should not be a congressional mandate but capitalistic industrial response to the depletion of fossil fuels.

Most importantly:

  • $1.2 billion earmark for New York City subway expansion by Rep. Charlie Rangel, chairman of the Ways and Means committee (he writes the tax laws) who is under investigation for tax fraud and violating federal housing regulations. He refuses to give up his chairmanship because he believes we’re too stupid to challenge his innocence and the ‘most-ethical Congress in history’ (i.e. the lamest leadership in the history of the United States Congress is protecting him sorry backside).


Lest we forget the declaration of our independence:

  • “But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. — Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government.”

Now, I realize we are not under the despotism of a monarch, but reality is that our republic gives us little say except to vote someone in or out. The rest is up to a few people in Congress.

Worse, with the government bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the federal government on our dime, now owns about 50% of homes in America. In addition, the federal government on our dime, now own 80% of the largest insurance company in America that has become a failure. Yes, the government now owns 80% of a failed company.

Ask me how comfortable you really feel knowing the government owns our homes, owns our largest insurance company, appoints unelected officials to control our banking, and refuses to reduce our prices on commodities where government intervention is the problem!


This November, ask yourself:

  • Which candidates will give us affordable energy independence?
  • Which candidates will deregulate industries where regulation has caused calamity?
  • Which candidates will allow the free-market to prevail?
  • Which candidates will promote economic strength by reducing the tax burden for all?
  • Which candidates will promote reform of government agencies cutting wasteful spending from budgets?
  • Which candidates will prevent wasteful earmarks of our money to projects that have nothing to do with us?

The answer to all of these is McCain-Palin.

Final facts:

  • Which candidates have been lobbied by banking/credit card industry executives to look out for their interests?
  • Which candidates have liberal former Fannie Mae CEO on their staff?
  • Which candidates have received the most money in 3 years than any other candidates in history from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac?

The answer to all of these is Obama-Biden.

The choice is simple and the facts are clear. After a $9 million celebrity fundraiser last night featuring the most ideological unsafe people in the United States, you know who Barack Obama is looking out for. The very people lining his pockets (i.e. not the middle class, not the lower class, not any of us).
